The wild outside

Ah, the wild

Outside me today

With the birds

On this misty morning.

In the trees

A strange call,

My first sight of

The pileated woodpecker

A beauty which

Struck me with wonder,

Such awe, I’m certain

I lost my breath

In the moment.

As a mirror, she saw me

And I her,

Enchanted,

In time each,

Maybe eternity

Maybe less,

Only time knows.

A sea lion barks,

Spell lifts.

But the string strung,

for surely she is still here.
